Where do we ship products to?

• We currently ship products to Mainland UK.
• We do not ship products to Northern Ireland. 

Delivery charges

Shipping to the UK mainland costs £4.95 on all orders.

How soon can we expect delivery?

• For standard sized items, we will dispatch orders within 3 business days. Delivery will take place 1-2 working days after dispatch in Mainland UK.
• For Larger sized items, delivery will take place within 3-4 working days. 

We will deliver oversized items on a 2-person delivery service. The delivery date is arranged with you to suit your schedule. The delivery period can be extended an extra 7 days at no charge.

If you ordered an item from Home Garden Direct that is currently not in stock or a made-to-order product or seasonal item that is on backorder, then you should refer to your order confirmation for the expected delivery date. We may experience delays beyond this date due to fabric delays or supplier issues, but we will keep you up to date if such a delay occurs.

If you have ordered multiple items from Home Garden Direct, all of your products will be shipped to you as soon as the final item is available in our warehouse and checks are complete. We do this to ensure that all of your products arrive at the same time for your convenience and also to help reduce our environmental impact. Thank you for understanding our policy.

Outdoor Furniture Care Guide

This guide will help care for your garden furniture. It covers cleaning, maintaining, storing, and repairing it.

Clean your garden furniture

Cleaning garden furniture regularly is necessary to keep it pristine and prolonging its life. We recommend cleaning garden furniture twice a year, once at the start of the spring and again at the end of Summer/Autumn.

Rattan - Sponge clean with warm soapy water.

Wood – Use hot soapy water using a soft bristle brush.

Metal - Wash with hot soapy water using a soft cloth.

Plastic/Polywood - hand wash with a sponge and soapy water. Stubborn stains can be wiped away with white distilled vinegar or baking soda.

Glass - Wash with hot soapy water using a soft cloth

Clean your cushions

Use a soft bristle brush or a soft cloth with diluted warm soapy water. Wipe away excess water with a soft cloth and blot them with a dry towel.

Dry cushions outdoors or place them in a warm airing cupboard.

Caring for wooden garden furniture

To care for wooden garden furniture, follow the same steps as above; start by regularly cleaning it with a soft brush or cloth to remove dirt and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the wood.

Apply a protective finish such as varnish or oil to help prevent moisture from penetrating the wood and causing it to rot or warp. Acacia will weather naturally and develop an attractive silvery-grey finish. But, if you’d rather maintain the wood’s honey-gold colour, treat it with oil, apply with a cloth or paintbrush.

Caring for metal garden furniture

Rust and corrosion affect metal garden furniture and any metal elements on your garden furniture. Rust and corrosion can eat through metal, making furniture dangerous and causing irreparable damage. So, it's essential to check all metal parts regularly. Remove it using rust removal methods and to prevent rust from returning, polish your metal garden furniture with car wax to make it water-resistant or use a metal protective coating.

General Advice

Avoid dropping furniture on its corners or feet, or leaning back on two legs, as this can weaken and damage the frames, feet, or legs.

Prevent sharp objects such as keys, buckles, and heels from coming into contact with your furniture.

Avoid exposing the furniture to excessive water or sunlight, and refrain from using chemicals like hair and skin preparations, fake tans, insect repellents, and other cosmetics or household cleaning materials that are not recommended for use on the furniture.

Do not place hot dishes or mugs directly on the furniture surfaces. Always use table mats or coasters to prevent damage.

Be mindful of objects that can cause light refraction (such as glasses, drinking glasses, glass vases etc) in strong sunlight as this can cause damage.

While tempered glass is designed to be strong and resilient, it is not completely immune to breaking in hot/freezing weather. Proper care and consideration of environmental factors can help extend the lifespan of tempered glass and ensure its safety in hot/freezing conditions.

Protect your garden furniture from the elements

Over time, weather can do severe damage to garden furniture. For example, persistent rain can rust metal and rot wood. And sunlight can fade colours. So, it’s essential to protect it from the elements.

The best way to do this is with garden furniture covers or store them in a garden shed/under cover when not using them where you can. Cover or store your furniture during harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow or extreme heat to prevent damage. Lastly, inspect your furniture regularly for signs of wear and tear and make necessary repairs as needed to prolong its life.

Also, protect upholstery by keeping it out of direct sunlight to avoid fading. And take cushions in at night or when it’s raining as the dampness will cause mould to grow.

Don't allow furniture to sit in water as this will rot wood or make metal rust. Instead, move it where water doesn't collect and use a garden furniture covers to protect it.

During the autumn and winter, it’s recommended to keep in a garage or garden shed. This keeps it away from the elements, which can cause rot, decay, and rust.
